Shedding Light

Viewed from the lofty height of a bunk bed, "Shedding Light" captures a moment where imagination meets reality, revealing a complex interplay of objects, figures, and light. In this skewed interior, a child's figure under a solitary lamp reaches towards an uncertain plug—caught in the act of either igniting or extinguishing the light, a decision poised on the edge of innocence and awareness.
A big blue hand emerges through an open window, as if reaching from another dimension or reality, suggesting a blend of the fantastical with the familiar. The room stretches beyond the immediate, with an open red door revealing a figure gesturing for silence—a quiet plea for introspection or secrecy. Beyond this door, a standing clock is frozen mid-chime by another figure, attempting to pause time itself. The room is filled with these enigmatic gestures and symbols, each caught in a moment of action or contemplation, as if time is both suspended and in motion.

Concept and Inspiration:
"Shedding Light" marks the beginning of the "Rooms of the Interior" series, an exploration of inner landscapes and the fragmented nature of personal memory. Inspired by a blend of childhood innocence and the deeper layers of adult introspection, this painting delves into the choices that shape our perception of reality. The elevated perspective from the bunk bed suggests a child's view of the world, where every shadow and light holds a mystery, every gesture a potential revelation.

The recurring motifs of light and shadow play a crucial role, symbolizing the conscious and the subconscious, the known and the hidden. The figures, objects, and their interactions within this interior space are reflections of the artist's own journey into understanding the self, navigating the delicate balance between holding onto innocence and embracing the realities of the world. Through this work, the artist invites viewers into a space of contemplation, encouraging them to shed light on their own interiors.
